More info about the General Mobile DSTL1

Posted by TK on Saturday, February 28, 2009, In : Android Devices
Definitely a sleek, expensive looking device...
General Mobile DSTL1

We’re excited for General Mobile’s offerings for three reasons: first, it appears that they know how to design a phone (is this thing SLEEK or what!). Second, the dual-sim capabilities is an intriguing feature. And third, we want to see more Android devices already!

Though the DSTL1 looks like (and is) a high end device , its features are all over the place in terms of quality. For example, the camera packs a punch. We’re talking about 5...

Posted by TK on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, In : Android Devices

The Kogan Agora was once supposed to be the second Android handset on the market, and then it was put on a permanent hold. But the latest installment seems to be pointing to having another Kogan Agora handset on the horizon, and this time instead of sporting a Blackjack like appearance it will be a full-touchscreen model. The details of the new model are mostly unknown, but it is speculated that it will ditch the physical qwerty in favor of the virtual keyboard. It is also expected to have a ...

"I am rich" App appears on Android Market

Posted by TK on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, In : Apps
I am rich
I guess it was only a matter of time before someone put one of these great apps on the Android Market. Just like the old iPhone app, this app basically just shows a "mesmerizing" glowing crystal (and has no functional value at all).

Apple banned Armin Heinrich's "I Am Rich", which cost $1,000 and only showed a red ruby, from its App Store last August. Now the conceptually similar "I Am Richer" has arrived on the Android Market from Mike DG.This version however, can be yours for only $200 (whic...

Some Paid Apps Invisible to Unlocked Android Phones

Posted by TK on Monday, February 23, 2009, In : Android
It seems that the Google Android OS, the platform is supposed to open for all, is a little less open for some than others. If you own an unlocked developer G1 Android phone, even those that were given to Google employees, you may be missing out on some paid apps in the Android Market.

So far, apps like Shazam and Calorie Counter only appear as free apps - at least they do on my unlocked G1. According to Google’s Android Market help site, “copy-protected applications, including Shazam and...

HTC Magic in depth: Pics, Video, Info (from AndroidCommunity.com)

Posted by TK on Thursday, February 19, 2009, In : Android Devices

In terms of the hardware, under the hood there’s little different to the G1.  What HTC have tweaked is the software, which has made the capacitive touchscreen more responsive and the smartphone as a whole speedier.  The Android software stack itself has few differences, the most obvious being the new on-screen keyboard.  80-percent of the time the Magic is used in portrait orientation, and the keyboard won’t work in landscape orientation aside from with apps - such as the browser - that f...

Android Market Announces Policies and Guidelines

Posted by TK on Thursday, February 19, 2009, In : Apps

No kids allowed. One of the new guidelines established by Google for the Market is that you must be 13 years or older. I doubt that there’s going to be much of a problem with that. Most of the people we know using a G1 are considerably older than that.

Speaking of children, Google has zero-tolerance policy for child pornography. They also won’t allow sexually explicit apps or programs with nudity. For that kind of stuff, you’ll have to get it from somewhere else.

Among the things not me...

Google axed Android multitouch at Apple’s request

While the G1’s capacitive touchscreen certainly recognizes multitouch input - as recent hackshave demonstrated - and earlier builds of Android code inclu...
