HTC HeroFirst you need to download the Android SDK. It may sound confusing but
it's not. There are tools in here that we need. You can get it from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html.
This is a modular SDK and all the tools we need are in this download.
Once downloaded you just need to extract it in a directory of choice.
The next thing you need to download is asroot2. This is a script that was
developed that runs an exploit in Android's linux that allows your to run
root. The link f... Continue reading ...

After months of discovery and hearsay, the Android build that we’ve all been waiting for is about to finally make it out. The Android Developers Blog announced today the availability of an “early look” Android 1.5 SDK. This release seems like a mostly complete version of the final release, though Google warns that some of the APIs are bound to change.
Beyond the features that v1.5 brings to the end user (below), the new SDK carries a few key changes:
-
The SDK now supports multiple v...

Back when Andy Rubin demonstrated Flash working on the T-Mobile G1 last November, the assumption was that the technology would arrive on Android sooner rather than later. Its been five months and there’s still no sign from Adobe; however, embedded devices company Bsquare is claiming to be working with “a global, tier-one carrier” to bring Flash technology to the Android platform.
Bsquare has apparently already ported the Flash Player to over 100 embedded devices. However... Continue reading ...

According to analysts at Informa Telecoms & Media, Apple’s sexy iPhone device is expected to fall behind Google Android within the next 3-4 years. Analysts at the company claim that Android’s open source operating system will keep production costs low and open Android up to more customers than the iPhone.
Analysts say that competition among smartphones has changed the cell phone market, and Gavin Byrne noted:
“While demand in the mid tier will fall away during 2009, sales of new s... Continue reading ...

A developer by the name of [ghostwalker] has managed to not only get X11 running on Android, but has also assembled a how-to guide
should you feel inclined to try this type of thing for yourself. The
end product of this little experiment results in you being able to
literally run a fully fledged Linux desktop environment on your G1.
However, there are a few little hang-ups which you will need to
overcome if you are to be successful with this endeavor.
The X Window System, also known as X or X... Continue reading ...

It seems that the Google Android OS, the platform is supposed to
open for all, is a little less open for some than others. If you own an
unlocked developer G1 Android phone, even those that were given to Google
employees, you may be missing out on some paid apps in the Android
Market.
So far, apps like Shazam and Calorie Counter only appear as free
apps - at least they do on my unlocked G1. According to
Google’s Android Market help site, “copy-protected applications,
including Shazam and... Continue reading ...

This guide is based on the instructions and Android app written by Graham Stewart.
Many thanks to Graham for figuring out this easy tether setup. This
one, however, is a SOCKS proxy instead of a true modem tether, so it's
limited to Firefox browsing-you won't be able to use any other apps
unless you can configure them to connect via a proxy yourself. We've
tested with Firefox though, and it works great.
1. Go here
on your G1's browser and install the Tetherbot app. If unknown sources
are not ... Continue reading ...

Boy that didn’t take long. Coming right out of last week’s CES show, everybody was talking about how wonderful Palm’s
new device, and OS is. There was an awful lot of pressure on the
company to come out with something innovative as they risk heading the
way of the dodo bird.
Not only did Palm stave off extinction a little bit longer, but they
seem to have almost immediately risen back to a top contender. Things
are finally starting to look good for the company. Nothing can stop
this m... Continue reading ...

The shortcomings listed with the G1 and Android seems to be getting handled rather quickly and the latest bit of news is some of the most well received.
Sometime in the first quarter of next year (Q1 ‘09), Android will be
updated to include a soft keyboard. On top of that, there ought to be
the standard fare of predictive text and suggestions. This will bring
the total number of input options to at least 4 counting physical
QWERTY, touch screen, and trackball.
This will play ... Continue reading ...

Take a look at some concepts over in the TAT Show Room
and get a feel for some of the things they are able to do. Simply
amazing stuff! While you are there, check out some of the concepts
