Archos Announces Android Phone Launch

March 29, 2009

Archos Android

Archos, after surprising many with the announcement that it will be introducing an Android based Internet Media Tablet, has given away details on when we'll finally be able to get our hands on it.

According to recently produced financial results, the company is set to launch the telephony-enabled Android phone in Q3, which means it could very well land before the previous September release date.

It also states that it intends to continue in the MP3 player market, something which the company says is one that 'remains important in volume' to Archos.

Archos has pledged to keep all of its future segments (MP3 players, the recent Archos 10 netbook and the forthcoming Android phone) under €500, which means should the exchange rates settle down we could be picking up an Archos Android for less than $660.

This is going to be the largest display on an Android phone, unless some company releases a handset larger than 5 inches before the summer. It certainly will have the largest memory with a whopping 500GB of capacity?

It will also measure less than 1cm in thickness and still pack a seven-hour playback time, so we're pretty excited about this device sporting an OMAP3440 processor based on the ARM Cortex-A8 superscalar microprocessor.

And keep an eye out for a bigger effort into mobile TV from the French PMP company... apparently that's going to be a big focus according to the financial results.

Adobe Flash technology coming to Android?

March 25, 2009

Flash on Android

Back when Andy Rubin demonstrated Flash working on the T-Mobile G1 last November, the assumption was that the technology would arrive on Android sooner rather than later. Its been five months and there’s still no sign from Adobe; however, embedded devices company Bsquare is claiming to be working with “a global, tier-one carrier” to bring Flash technology to the Android platform.

Bsquare has apparently already ported the Flash Player to over 100 embedded devices. However...

Lenovo steals Apple's iPhone Design for New Android Device?

March 24, 2009
According to a Chinese Blog, the pictures below are of a new Android device from Lenovo, named the "oPhone". If true, Lenovo is definitely one of the largest companies I've seen that is perfectly fine with ripping off Apple's designs and IP. When I first saw the pictures I thought they surely must be images of one of the many iPhone knock-offs available on eBay. What do you think?

According to a recent comScore report, it appears that the T-Mobile G1 has become the biggest money maker for T-Mobile. For most, this may not come as much of a surprise, but the reason behind the biggest money maker title is not just because of the phone itself.

First of all, the G1 is the device that currently brings T-Mobile the most money, however that is not necessarily due to the $179 price tag. In fact, the G1 is only the 8th best selling T-Mobile handset. Instead, the biggest money m...
