Now, you can use AppManager to backup most apps, but
protected apps are not included in this because they are stored in a
different directory. With a rooted phone, you can access this directory
and copy the apps to your SD card or to your computer.
First method, copy with your phone to SD card:
Install and open a Terminal Emulator on your phone.
Enter su to be superuser (root).
Enter cd /data/app-private/ to enter the protected application directory.

For those who will soon get their hands on the Verizon DROID by Motorola,

As we all know, the Motorola DROID will launch this next Friday,

It would seem as if November is the Android month, with the new MotorolaDroid coming to Verizon on November 6th. And the rumors pointing towards November 3rd to the date that Sony Ericsson will be launching a new Android device.

We all know Microsoft was the biggest player in the mobile OS arena
for a long time, not because WinMo was the best, but because it was a
lonely business in the past. With more and more cellphone makers turning to the free Android OS from Google, all that is changing. The New York Times and FT.com, had each an interesting article on that matter.
With about a dozen Android phones

Google, it would seem, is about to get so far ...

Along with the Averatec announcement, there are rumors that we can expect to see an Android-powered netbook showcased during Computex 2009. Not only did Palm stave off extinction a little bit longer, but they
seem to have almost immediately risen back to a top contender. Things
are finally starting to look good for the company. Nothing can stop

Given all the "leaked" pictures and "code names" this isnt really any big news but...
In a Fierce Wireless interview dated earlier today, T-Mobile confirmed more G phones.
Apparently the 4th largest carrier in the US is not going to rest on
the laurels of the G1. That’s right, there are going to be more phones
in the G series.
"Our primary focus is consumer-based devices. As the year
progresses there will be a significant number of HSPA-capable smart
phones. We will be launching more G s...

The shortcomings listed with the G1 and Android seems to be getting handled rather quickly and the latest bit of news is some of the most well received.
Sometime in the first quarter of next year (Q1 ‘09), Android will be
updated to include a soft keyboard. On top of that, there ought to be
the standard fare of predictive text and suggestions. This will bring
the total number of input options to at least 4 counting physical
QWERTY, touch screen, and trackball.

Take a look at some concepts over in the TAT Show Room
and get a feel for some of the things they are able to do. Simply
amazing stuff! While you are there, check out some of the concepts
that were used for Android. There’s both photos and video to go
through. Some are a little more targeted than others, but all are
beautiful. Great work guys!

One of the bigger names to join the Open Handset Alliance this week was Sony Ericsson. They are one of the last of the major handset makers, save for Nokia, to get on board with Android. As they enjoy a growing market share, SE has really stepped their game up of late.
The handset that has everyone talking up Sony Ericsson
is their Xperia 1 and for all the right reasons. It’s a sleek device
with a perfect blend of form factor. Packed with a 3.2MP camera, a 800
x 480 touchscreen, and an o...

Making good on the rumors from a few weeks ago, Kogan has officially announced the first Android handsets to be released in Australia. Two models of the handset called the Agora and Agora Pro will be launched on January 29th, 2009 at prices of $299 and $399 respectively.
Unlocked. Not quite the $199 price, nor the December release date, but
we’ll forgive them. That’s because $299 in AU equates to about $193 in US dollars, while the $399 price comes out to around $258.00.

Archos has announced a 500GB, ultra-thin media tablet that will run Android for release later this year.
Promising PC-like performance, the 10mm thin tablet will also support Adobe Flash on a high-res 5″ screen. According to Pocket-Lint, the device will have all of the same features as an Android smartphone, in addition to the Archos multimedia goodies.
Charbax points out that this should pair Android with the best features of Archos media tablets, enabling things like:

While everyone is anxiously anticipating Cupcake to arrive, we’re
merely getting a few crumbs for now. Looking through some of the
bullet points on the official T-Mobile forum, some of them are still very welcome.
Developers
and frequent Android Market visitors will love the fact that users can
market comments as spam. No more blatant website advertising or
derogatory remarks! Another update to the Android OS is the new Google
Maps 3.0, which of course has the new Google Latitude feature.... Continue reading ...

Hello, developers! As you may have heard by now, users around the
world have started to receive updates to their Android devices that
provide new features and functionality. You may also have noticed that
the new update reports as "Android 1.1". Applications written with the

But if you want to take advantage of the new APIs in 1.1, you'll need an updated SDK.

Apps
Google has informed developers for the Android Market -- the storefront
for Android-based applications -- that they will be able to create
applications that require payment. Up until now, all the applications
available in the Android Market have been free. This has prevented some
developers from creating applications for the Android platform. With
the arrival of paid applications, slated for some time in the first
quarter, more developers may be motivated to create applications for
Google's m... Continue reading ...
