ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Oct. 8, 2012 — LG Electronics USA and T-Mobile USA, Inc., today announced that the stylish and powerful LG Optimus L9 smartphone will be available this fall.

“The LG Optimus L9 gives our customers an amazing 4G experience packaged in a stylish design,” said Brad Duea, senior vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA.  “And, when coupled with T-Mobile’s Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan, T-Mobile customers have the freedom to live an always-connected lifestyle on our 4G network– whether that means watching videos, streaming music or searching the Web – without having to worry about overage charges or surprise bills.”

LG Optimus L9 also features LG QuickMemo, a smartphone experience with powerful note-taking capabilities that lets users add commentary, notes and drawings to screenshots with a few swipes of a finger, then share them with friends and family via social media and email. LG Optimus L9 provides users with a five-megapixel camera and true-to-life 1080p HD video recording capability, so all of life’s important moments can be captured with clarity. For spontaneous photo-worthy events, the LG Optimus L9 lets users snap photos while simultaneously capturing video and take advantage of voice-activated photos using “Cheese Shot” by simply saying “cheese” to snap a picture.

    newwallet

Google Wallet has all but taken off since its first debut but the search giant isn’t ready to give up just yet. It wasn’t too long before Google began to allow all credit and debit cards to be linked to its wallet service and now it’s taking it to a different level. Or so it seems.

So what will be new in the next version of Google Wallet? We’ haven’t the slightest of clues. We’re sure Big G has been hard at work to improve its payment service but it’s still hard to see it taking off after so many failed attempts. That said, now that ISIS is available and backed by all four major carriers in the US of A, Google’s push for Wallet will likely be harder than it’s ever pushed before.

The guys at Droid-Life make a good point about how the new version could be changed. With Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile all aligning behind ISIS, Google could change the way Wallet works entirely, allowing any smartphone to use the service. For that to happen, it would likely mean that Google Wallet would no longer require NFC to be used. NFC in itself has yet to really take off in the US, but it’s steadily growing, and if Google doesn’t want to wait on more devices with NFC (even though there are many) to ship, it could make NFC an additional way to use its service.

Personally, I really don’t care about Google Wallet. It’s interesting, but not in a way that makes me care to give up my plastic. Because even if I do end up trying out the new service, I’ll likely still keep my credit cards in my real wallet.

So what do you think? How enticing is the new Google Wallet for you?

    apple-money

    Stop. The. Presses.

Those of you thinking that the upcoming iPad Mini will be priced to knock the wind out of Apple’s competitors may be in for a rude awakening tomorrow. According to All Things D, industry analysts expect Apple’s 7.85″ slate to be priced at the top of the market for 7-8″ tablets, with expected retail pricing starting at $299 to $349 for the base model.

Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD tablets, the industry leading tablets in the smaller form factor market, retail for $199 and up, and many expected Apple to price the iPad Mini to “go for the kill” against these tablets. Google and Amazon achieve the sub-$200 price points by eating the loss in margins with hopes of making up for the hardware subsidy by selling lots of content. Apple could reasonably do the same with the iPad Mini, as customers have shown time and time again that they’re willing to spend lots of money in Apple’s ecosystem, but Apple has yet to take the subsidized hardware approach with any of its products, save (maybe) the relatively niche and self-proclaimed hobby project Apple TV.

The iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone are all priced at the high-end of the market, and they’ve sold quite well to date, with each at top of their respective markets. These devices have achieved this level of success despite competitor offerings matching or beating them in terms of pricing. Similarly, with the MacBook and iMac, Apple is gaining ground in the PC industry even though its prices are high and the industry as a whole is in a slump. Apple has shown no signs of lowering prices in an attempt to gain a larger market share.

Apple historically doesn’t undercut on pricing regardless of where it falls in the market, and we have no reason to expect this trend to change with the iPad Mini, a product that responds to consumer demands (smaller tablet form factors) rather than the limited successes of the competition.

So yes, friends, the iPad Mini is certainly going to be priced at the higher end of the market, but don’t panic. You, me, and millions of others are going to buy it anyway, and Apple will be smiling all the way to the bank.

T-Mobile ups smartphone data requirements to 2GB

Want your T-Mobile smartphone with 200MB of data? If you still haven’t signed-up for such a contract, you can’t do that anymore. Starting with October 10th, future smartphone owners will have to commit on a plan that includes at least 2GB of monthly data. According to the Magenta carrier, modern smartphones consume more data and the 200MB plan is easily used up. With 10 times more data per month, consumers are protected from any unexpected overage charges or throttling.

Existing customers, on the other hand, can keep their 200MB plans and use them like it’s nobody’s business… at least until they want to get a new phone from T-Mobile. ;)

Verizon\'s HTC DLX with 5-inch 1080p screen caught in the wild

Days after we’ve seen the HTC J Butterfly announced in Japan, we caught the similar device with Verizon’s branding. The forthcoming HTC DLX (pronounced “Deluxe”) will have the same 5-inch 1080p screen, along with other high-end specs like 2GB of RAM, LTE connectivity support, 8 or 12-megapixel rear camera (we’re still not sure), front-facing one, 16GB of built-in storage, while Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean runs the show out of box.

We’ve no idea when Verizon and HTC will officially announce the new phone, but we know that Japanese KDDI will launch its version in December. Guess we should expect to see it hitting store shelves at about the same time. We’ll bring you more as soon as we hear something new on this. Stay tuned in the meantime…

3G-enabled Google Chromebook will sell for $329.99

We intentionally didn’t talk about the new Chromebook when it was unveiled. The reason is simple – it’s not a mobile device. However, the 3G-enabled variant classifies as such and we’re giving it some space on IntoMobile.

The always connected model will rely on Verizon’s 3G WWAN and will cost $329.99. That money will get its owners 100MB per month for 2 years, though we’re sure there will be an option to buy more data when needed.

Specs wise, this Chromebook will come with pretty much the same specs as its Wi-Fi-only counterpart, sporting a 1.7GHz Exynos 5 Dual Processor, 11.6-inch 1366×768 screen, 2GB RAM, 16GB of SSD, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, 3-in-1 card reader, VGA camera and 4080mAh battery giving up to 6.5 hours of battery life.

Sony Xperia T coming to major Canadian operators this November

Sony Xperia T is heading to Canada with all of the major carriers in the country lining up to offer it. The official Bond phone will ship with “exclusive Bond content including behind the scenes footage, interviews, clips, wallpapers, ring tones,” and available “this November” from Bell, Mobilicity, MTS, Rogers and Videotron. For some reason TELUS is not on the list…

We still don’t know the price, but we’re well aware of the Xperia T’s specs. They include a 4.6-inch 1280×720 pixels HD screen, 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that shoots 1080p HD videos, NFC, LTE/HSPA+ (depending on the model) and Wi-Fi connectivity, while Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is running the show. Jelly Bean update will be released shortly after the launch…
